Stainless Steel Wine Cabinet FAQ: 23 Questions
Twenty-three questions that come up before an order, answered the way we answer them on a call — measuring, cooling, finishes, payment, crating and what happens after installation.
Every answer here is about one product: a stainless steel wine cabinet or wine rack built to measured dimensions in Shunde, Foshan. Where the answer depends on your room, the drawing or the shipping term, it says so rather than inventing a number.
Measuring and fit
What if my wall is not square?
A wall 6 mm out corner to corner is normal and the drawing allows for it. The frame is folded to the smallest of your three widths, and a 40 mm scribe on each side takes up the difference. Past 40 mm we cut a filler panel and show the joint on the drawing, so you see it before it is built rather than after.
Can you build into an existing alcove?
Yes, and an alcove is usually easier than a free wall because both returns are already fixed. Send the internal width, height and depth plus both diagonals. The diagonals tell us whether the opening is parallel, which decides whether the frame is scribed on one side or two.
How much clearance does a cabinet need?
A cooled cabinet wants about 50 mm behind it for the refrigeration circuit and a clear vent at the front of the plinth. A passive cabinet can sit back against the wall. The plinth vent must not be carpeted, boxed in or blocked by a rug.
Who measures the room?
You do. Site measurement is not part of our scope — you supply the dimensions and confirm them on the measured drawing, and those are the numbers the workshop builds to. It is the one step we cannot do properly from Foshan.
Do I have to remove the skirting board?
Only if you want the cabinet flush to the wall. The alternative is a cut-out in the base panel drawn to the skirting height and depth you send, and many clients prefer that because the cabinet can be taken out later without patching the wall.
Cooling and power
Is the cooling 110 V for the US?
Yes. 110 V / 60 Hz is available for the US and Canada, and 220–240 V / 50 Hz for Europe, the Middle East and Australia. The voltage and the circuit rating are printed on the drawing and confirmed before production.
Which compressor do you use?
Embraco. That matters after the sale more than before it: it is a standard refrigeration part rather than a proprietary unit, so an engineer in your city can source a replacement instead of shipping a cabinet back to China.
Single zone or dual zone?
Dual zone is a feature; temperature stability is the requirement. If the room already sits at 12–14 °C without swinging, one zone running gently holds steadier than two zones in one box. We ask for the room range before recommending either.
Does a cooled cabinet need a drain?
No. The cooling is a sealed circuit with no condensate tray to plumb. What it needs is air at the plinth — the vent is at the front and has to stay clear.
Materials and finishes
Will stainless steel rust?
Stainless is stain-less, not stain-proof. Inland with normal humidity it holds well; in coastal air carrying salt, or beside a chlorinated indoor pool, we specify a higher grade and say so on the drawing. The 63 surfaces are films and brushed finishes over the steel, not a coating that hides the grade underneath.
Can you match a RAL colour?
Yes — to a RAL code, or to a physical sample you post to us. Sixty-three surfaces are held as real samples in the factory. If yours is not one of them, the nearest match is quoted per project once we have seen the sample in daylight.
Is the glass tempered?
Tempered, or low-E laminated when the cabinet is cooled and daylight reaches it. The glass specification is printed on the drawing rather than decided on the floor, because it changes the door weight and the hinge.
How large can one panel be?
Up to 2,400 mm in one piece, and a wall can run to 4,000 mm in one unit. Past that the run is split on a mullion, drawn so the joint lands where the eye already expects a vertical line.
Order, drawing and payment
What does the drawing fee cover?
The CAD set and the 3D views, drawn against your wall and your bottles. It is 10% of the order value, and it is credited against the order when you place it, so a project that goes ahead does not pay for its drawings twice.
How long does production take?
30 to 40 days from the production deposit, quoted per project. Some orders run shorter and some longer, and the range is confirmed with the drawing rather than promised at enquiry.
How much is the production deposit?
50% of the order value, once the measured drawing is confirmed. The remaining 50% is paid before shipment, after the dry-fit photographs and video have been approved.
Can I change the design after the deposit?
Before the panels are cut, yes — changes are cheapest on paper. After cutting, a change means a new part: it can be done, and it moves the schedule by the time it takes to remake that part and re-finish it.
Do you send physical samples?
Yes. Post us the surface you are matching and we will say which of the 63 codes is closest, or ask for the codes you are considering and they ship with the drawing pack.
Delivery, crating and installation
How is the cabinet crated?
Panel by panel, numbered to the setting-out drawing, with glass in a separate crate and hardware boxed and labelled by position. The numbering is what lets your fitter work without a call at two in the morning.
Who arranges shipping?
You do, through your forwarder, and we crate to suit. We quote EXW or FOB: EXW if your forwarder collects from Foshan, FOB if you would rather we deliver the crate to the port of departure.
Who installs it?
Your fitter, to our setting-out drawing. The cabinet is dry-fitted complete in Foshan first, photographed and filmed, and that footage is sent before it is crated so your fitter has seen the finished assembly.
What if a panel arrives damaged?
Photograph the crate before it is opened, and the panel after. Crating and packing are photographed before they leave, so a claim is settled against a record rather than a description.
After installation
What maintenance does a stainless cabinet need?
A soft cloth and water, wiped along the grain. No abrasive pads, no chlorinated cleaners, and nothing left standing on the surface — standing liquid is what marks stainless, not the air.
What if the cooling fails in two years?
The compressor is a standard Embraco part, so a refrigeration engineer in your city can test and replace it. The model number and the wiring diagram travel with the cabinet.
Do you keep my drawing on file?
Yes. A repeat order is built from the confirmed measured drawing, so a second cabinet matches the first without measuring the same wall again.
What we make, in three frames
If your question is not here, send it with a photograph of the wall. A specific answer beats a generic one, and it usually takes one reply.

Ask us something specific
Send the wall, the bottle count and the finish direction. The answer comes back with the dimensions marked on your own photographs.
