Vaulted Cellar Corridor with Bottle Walls
A cellar corridor under a vault, with both walls carried in bottle racks and the arch left clear so the room reads as one volume rather than two storage runs.
What the photographs show
A long corridor with a barrel-vaulted ceiling, bottle racks on both sides stopping short of the spring line of the arch, and the vault left in plain plaster. The floor is stone; the racks are dark, so the bottles provide the only colour in the room.
What the build had to solve
A vault leaves no straight line to fix a tall cabinet to, so the racks are built as free-standing frames tied back to the wall at each bay, with the top edge cut to follow the arch. Where the vault drops below head height the racks lose a tier rather than the frame going out of level.
What to copy, and what to avoid
Worth copying: stopping the rack below the spring line so the vault stays visible. Worth avoiding: running racks into the curve, which flattens the arch that the room was built for.

What clients ask about a room like this one
Can racks follow a curved ceiling?
The top tier can be cut to the curve, and the drawing shows the line it follows. Past a certain fall the last tier is simply dropped on part of the run rather than forcing the frame out of level.
Is the vault insulated?
On a cellar that needs to hold temperature, the vault has to be insulated before the racks go in. That is building work, not cabinet work, and it is on the list we hand over at survey.
