Wooden Dowel Bottle Rack Walls
Bottles carried on timber dowels instead of stainless cradles, for rooms where the wine storage has to sit inside a timber interior rather than against it.
What the photographs show
Bottle racks built from timber dowels and frames rather than metal, in rooms with timber floors and warm light. The bottles sit on the dowels with their shoulders supported, and the wall reads as furniture rather than as a wine shop.
What the build had to solve
Dowel racks are a timber job with a metal frame behind it. The dowels are set at a pitch that holds a bottle by the shoulder, the frame carries the load so the dowels never do, and the timber is finished to match the floor rather than to a swatch. Where a room needs cooling, we build the dowel wall as a liner inside a cooled cabinet so the look stays timber.
What to copy, and what to avoid
Worth copying: dowels that match the floor. Worth avoiding: dowels carrying load over long spans — the frame takes it, not the timber.

What clients ask about a room like this one
Timber or stainless dowels?
Timber for a timber room, stainless where the room is stone or painted. Both sit on the same metal frame, so the choice is a finish decision rather than a structural one.
Can a dowel wall be cooled?
Yes, built as a liner inside a cooled box. The cooling is behind the dowels, which keeps the timber look without exposing the timber to a cold room directly.
